BioFach America Comes to Boston
From October 16-18, BioFach America invites representatives from the international organic market to its new location – Boston. The US edition of the world’s leading organics exhibition has grown much bigger with the move from Baltimore and now occupies almost 3,000 m2 – 33% more net space.
Last year’s BioFach America and Natural Products Expo East (joint events) together attracted 25,000 trade visitors. This year, organizers expect another successful get-together with continued growth.
US sales of organic food and drinks in 2007 are estimated at 20 billion dollars. Experts estimate the total market, including non-foods, at 21.2 billion US dollars – 20 % growth over 2006. Organic remains the fastest-growing segment in the American food sector.
Results from SmallCapSentinel from 1,000 consumers surveyed in Winter 2007 and Spring 2008 clearly show the development towards healthier foods. Monthly spending rose by 7.7 % from 177 to 191 US dollars in the period under study. Over 47 % of interviewees spend half their household budget on healthy and natural food.
Many consumers no longer regard organic products as luxury goods, but as a major necessity, according to the study. More and more people are prepared to pay higher food prices for health. The Organic Trade Association forecasts sales of more than 25 billion US dollars for organic products in 2008.
BioFach America is ready for this growth. Besides the seminar programme that starts the day before the exhibition, the supporting programme at BioFach America includes an organic farm tour, which presents best practice examples for interested visitors.
“This year’s highlights at BioFach America include the Indian pavilion. We are already looking forward to the first BioFach India in Mumbai from 29 April to 1 May 2009 and are pleased that the Indian subcontinent is presenting its rich treasure of organic products for the first time in a pavilion in Boston,” says Frank Venjakob, Director Events, Nürnberg Global Fairs. “The spectrum of products in the German pavilion is broader than ever this year. Besides exhibitors like Bionade, Logona and Sante, first-time exhibitors in Boston in 2008 include Neumarkter Lammsbräu, organic winegrower Lorenz and Andechser Molkerei Scheitz.”

Ethnic Exhibitions Join All Things Organic

All Things Organic co-locates with Expo Comida Latina and All Asia Food
The Organic Trade Association (OTA), in partnership with Diversified Business Communications, has announced it will co-locate its 2009 All Things Organic Conference and Trade Show with two of Diversified’s Cultural Food brand events: Expo Comida Latina and All Asia Food.
The newly-combined events will take place June 16-18, 2009, at McCormick Place in Chicago.
“This is an exciting time to be involved in the organic and ethnic and specialty product sectors, particularly as organic and ethnic foods are the two fastest-growing segments of retail food sales,” said David Gagnon, OTA’s Interim Executive Director. “These co-located events will offer national and regional forward-thinking retailers, foodservice professionals and manufacturers access to valuable educational opportunities and sourcing options.”
According to the Organic Trade Association’s 2007 Manufacturer Survey, organic food and beverage sales represented approximately 2.8 percent of overall U.S. food and beverage sales in 2006, growing 20.9 percent in that year alone. Overall U.S. organic product sales, including both food and non-food products, are estimated to have reached $21.2 billion in 2007, and are projected to surpass $25 billion in 2008.
With more than 70 percent of U.S. households buying authentic ethnic food and beverage products today, the demand for Hispanic and Asian foods is greater than ever. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Hispanic and Asian Americans will make up 33% of the U.S. population by the year 2050. Packaged Facts, meanwhile, has projected Hispanic and Asian markets to top $7 billion and $4 billion, respectively, in sales by 2009.
The co-location of the three shows will bring certified organic and ethnic food and beverage markets together in one focused event to deliver the latest trends and showcase new and innovative products. All Things Organic will mark its 9th year in 2009. It is the definitive annual meeting place of the North American organic industry, with an extensive conference program and a focused trade show floor open only to certified organic products and products approved for use in organic processing.
Expo Comida Latina and All Asia Food are the leading Hispanic and Asian food shows in North America. The launch of the 2009 event in Chicago will be in addition to an event Oct. 13-14, 2008, in Los Angeles. These events offer food and beverage buyers an opportunity for face-to-face meetings, networking, education, and a resource for authentic products and ingredients from exhibitors around the world, including pavilions and representation from the United States, Canada, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Guatemala, and El Salvador.
“Chicago looks forward to hosting this new co-location,” said Tim Roby, Chicago Convention & Tourism Bureau (CCTB) President and CEO. “We fully expect the CCTB’s unique marketing programs, coupled with our premier meeting destination, will meet all expectations for a successful event.”
